Make a Lifelong Difference for a Child

Linn County Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children

"To give a child a CASA is to give them a voice, and to give them a voice is to give them hope, and to give them hope is to give them the world."
- Pamela Butler,
National CASA Spokesman & former foster child,
   Clackamas County, Oregon

In 1977, a Seattle Superior Court Judge named David Soukup was concerned about trying to make decisions on behalf of abused and neglected children without enough information. He conceived the idea of appointing community volunteers to speak up for the best interests of these children in court. He made a request for volunteers; 50 citizens responded, and that was the start of the CASA movement.

Today, there are more than 50,000 advocates serving in 948 state and local program offices nationwide. CASA programs across the country are known by several different names, including Guardian ad Litem, Child Advocates and Voices for Children.

Since the inception of CASA advocacy, volunteers have helped well over 1,000,000 children find safe, permanent homes in which they can thrive.

Our Mission Statement: CASA of Linn County, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that supports volunteers who advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children under the protection of the Juvenile Court. Our purpose is to secure a safe, permanent home for every child in foster care as soon as possible.

Every day abused and neglected children are removed from their homes and placed into substitute care because their parents can not or will not protect them. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers work to help find these children safe permanent homes where they can thrive.

Become a CASA volunteer and be rewarded with some of the most powerful and fulfilling experiences you can find. CASA is the only organization that empowers everyday citizens as appointed officers of the court.

You don't have to be a lawyer or social worker to be a volunteer. We're simpy looking for people with a desire to help abused children. As a CASA volunteer, you'll receive training from professionals in the legal and welfare fields, and you'll have the complete support of your CASA organization to help you through each case.

Your involvement will make a direct impact on a child's life and perhaps for generations to come. Abused and neglected children here in Linn County are waiting for a CASA volunteer. If you or someone you know can volunteer to speak up for a child, please contact us!
