Why did you decide to become a CASA volunteer?
“I believe the system is flawed for juveniles. I don’t think enough is done for them, so I wanted to help.”
What has been the easiest thing about being a CASA? The most challenging?
“Being a CASA is really rewarding. Getting the smiles and hugs from the kids you help is icing on the cake. However, it’s extremely difficult to sit in front of these neglecting parents and stay professional”
What keeps you motivated when things get hard?
“Knowing that the children shouldn’t have to deal with this. They should be safe, and as a CASA you are helping provide that outcome for them.”
What is your most memorable CASA moment?
“Once in court, the girls I was advocating for showed their appreciation by giving me flowers. It was so genuine and they didn’t have to do that.”
What advice do you have for someone who wants to get involved?
“Do every step with a happy heart. Know that the job may be hard, but it can be done. And never work against yourself.”
